How to: Wire Hang a Canvas Print

How to Install the Wire Hanging Kit for Canvas Prints

Canvas paintings and prints bring a distinctive energy to any room. This is especially true for those that are printed all the way around the sides of the canvas. So how does one go about hanging an unframed canvas with all sides still visible? Simple: with the use of our wire hanging kit! Lucky for you, each canvas print we sell here at Art & Canvas comes with its own complimentary wire hanging hardware kit for this exact purpose. Although it involves a little bit of simple assembly, wire hanging your canvas is a great and easy way to make your piece shine.

Here’s how it’s done:

Set up: What you will need

Before starting, make sure you have the following items on-hand to make the task as hassle-free as possible:

  • Wire hanging hardware kit (comes with your A&C canvas print and includes wire, D-rings, and screws)
  • Drill or screwdriver
  • Wire cutters
  • Ruler or Tape measure

Step 1: Measure it!

Before the wire can be used, the D-rings will need to be attached to the back of the canvas. So the first step is to measure 1/3 down from the top of the canvas, and then use a pen or marker to mark the spot on the backside of the canvas bars on both sides. Make sure the two spots line up perfectly or the canvas may end up crooked when you finally hang it on the wall.

Step 2: Drill it!

The second step is to install your D-rings. Use a drill (or screwdriver, if need be), and the screws included in your kit to attach the D-rings at the marks you made in Step 1.

Step 3: Wire it!

After the D-rings are drilled securely into the canvas, thread the wire through both D-rings across the width of the piece. There should be a few inches of excess wire left on each side.

Step 4: Tie it!

With the wire through both D-rings, tightly pull the wire so that is it nice and taut (a wire that is too loose may cause the canvas to lean forward slightly when hung.) Then, tie the wire to both D-rings with a pretzel knot and wrap the excess wire around the taut wire about 12 times to keep it secure. Trim the excess length of wire with a pair of wire cutters.

Step 5: Hang it!

Finally, with the excess wire trimmed off, you are ready to hang your canvas art print!
