Described as a melancholy French Symbolist painter, Odilon Redon, became successful with his lithograph pieces for famous literary works. Later, his creative use of charcoal in his drawings moved the art period forward from Impressionism to Symbolism. Before Redon’s death, he created vividly colorful Fauvist palette paintings and pastels. However, Redon’s original noir artwork holds the most originality and creativity.
